Shopify vs WooCommerce vs Salla: Which Platform Fits Your Business in Jordan?

·July 18, 2026

This is the first decision every e-commerce business in Jordan faces, and it is the most consequential. Choose the wrong platform and you will spend 6–12 months building, customising, and learning — only to realise the platform cannot do what your business needs. Then you migrate, lose time, lose money, and potentially lose your SEO rankings.

I have built 75+ Shopify stores and worked with WooCommerce and Salla extensively. I am a Shopify Partner, so my bias is transparent — but I recommend Shopify because of what I have seen across real businesses, not because of a badge. Here is the honest comparison.

Shopify

Strengths

  • Marketing platform integration. This is Shopify's decisive advantage. Native, clean integrations with Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok Ads, and Snapchat Ads. Your product catalog syncs automatically. Pixels install in minutes. Conversion events fire accurately with revenue values. The data quality from Shopify is consistently superior to any other platform.
  • Reliability. Shopify hosts your store. No server management, no security patches, no downtime during traffic spikes. I have never had a Shopify store go down during a sale or campaign launch.
  • Checkout optimisation. Shopify's checkout is fast, mobile-optimised, and supports Shop Pay for express checkout. In a region where 80%+ of traffic is mobile, checkout speed directly impacts conversion rate.
  • App ecosystem. Thousands of apps for every functionality — reviews, loyalty programmes, email marketing, upselling, analytics.
  • Scalability. From a 10-product startup to a 10,000-product operation, Shopify handles the growth without requiring a platform change.

Weaknesses

  • Monthly cost. Plans start at around $39/month and increase with features, plus transaction fees if you do not use Shopify Payments.
  • Customisation limits. Deep structural customisation requires Liquid development. If you need something completely non-standard, you may hit walls.
  • Content management. Shopify's blogging capabilities are basic compared to WordPress. If content marketing is central to your strategy, the blog functionality requires workarounds.

Best For

Businesses that sell products online and depend on advertising to drive sales. E-commerce brands targeting multiple markets. Any business where the connection between the store and the ad platforms is critical to profitability.

WooCommerce (WordPress)

Strengths

  • Flexibility. WooCommerce is open-source and runs on WordPress. You can customise virtually anything — design, functionality, checkout flow, database structure.
  • Content management. WordPress is the best content management system available. If your business relies heavily on blogs, guides, and SEO-driven content, WordPress handles content better than any other platform.
  • No platform fees. WooCommerce itself is free. You pay for hosting, a domain, and any premium plugins or themes.
  • Full ownership. You own everything — the code, the database, the hosting environment.

Weaknesses

  • You manage everything. Hosting, security, SSL, updates, backups, performance optimisation — all your responsibility.
  • Plugin conflicts. WordPress plugins can conflict with each other, especially after updates. I have seen WooCommerce stores break after routine plugin updates.
  • Marketing integration is weaker. Connecting to Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok, and Snapchat requires manual plugin configuration. Data quality is often inconsistent.
  • Speed requires effort. WooCommerce performance depends entirely on your hosting, theme, and plugins. Achieving Shopify's out-of-the-box speed requires dedicated optimisation work.

Best For

Businesses that need deep customisation and have a developer available for ongoing maintenance. Content-heavy brands where the blog and resource library are as important as the store.

Salla

Strengths

  • Arabic-first. Salla is built for the Arabic-speaking market. The dashboard, checkout, and customer experience — everything is natively Arabic.
  • Local payment integration. mada, STC Pay, Tamara (buy now pay later), and other Saudi payment methods are built in. No third-party plugins needed.
  • Simple setup. A non-technical business owner can set up a basic Salla store in a day. The learning curve is the lowest of the three platforms.

Weaknesses

  • Marketing integration is limited. This is Salla's biggest weakness for any business that depends on advertising. Connecting to Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok, and Snapchat with the same data accuracy as Shopify is significantly harder.
  • Limited international capability. Multi-currency support, international shipping, and serving customers outside the Arab region are more limited than Shopify.
  • Smaller app ecosystem. Fewer third-party apps and integrations compared to Shopify.
  • Customisation ceiling. Design and structural customisation options are more limited than both Shopify and WooCommerce.

Best For

Small businesses selling exclusively within Saudi Arabia that need the simplest possible setup with native Arabic support and local payment methods.

My Recommendation

If your e-commerce business depends on advertising to drive revenue — and in this region, most e-commerce businesses do — Shopify wins. The marketing platform integration is the deciding factor. Cleaner data means better algorithm optimisation means higher ROAS means more profit from the same ad spend.

If you are a content-first brand with a developer on staff and need maximum customisation, WooCommerce is viable — but expect higher maintenance costs and more technical overhead.

If you are a small business selling only in Saudi Arabia and need to launch fast with minimal technical complexity, Salla gets you started — but you may outgrow it as your advertising and multi-channel needs expand.
